Tendon Tear Ligament

The coordination of patellar tendon and quadriceps (thigh muscles) helps in straightening our leg. Tears of this ligament are common especially in middle-aged persons, who play sports that involve jumping and running. If it is completely damaged, the person needs to get a surgery to avoid disability of the knee. The bottom of the kneecap and the top of the shinbone are attached by the patellar tendon. Tears of this tendon usually occur near the kneecap and can cause breakage of the bone as it tears. If the patellar tendon is completely torn, a person will not be able to straighten his/her knee causing difficulty in standing and walking. Tears due to medical conditions usually occur at the middle part. Patellar ligament tear mainly occur when direct impact is made to the front of the knee like when a person falls. However, jumping may also cause it to tear. The symptoms of patellar ligament tear include bruising, tenderness, cramping, and inability to straighten leg.
